Chief Executive Officer of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Jearlean John says the 7,902 houses promised by December will be delivered.
’I am always on target so there is no need to worry. These houses have already been built. The only problem with them is the wastewater and we are working on having that addressed in time for delivery,’ she said.
Members of the United National Congress (UNC) accused the Government of bribing people to vote by promising them houses after the elections, but John said the HDC has been working on allocation of these houses since January this year.
’As I said, these projects include Las Alturas in Morvant, Corinth in San Fernando and Exchange in Couva and the only problem is the wastewater facility which we are tendering for at the moment, and we expect that to be completed soon,’ she added.
John would not say why the tendering process was now being done. She said in a phone interview yesterday that she would be willing to provide the Express with details of the project after the general election. ’I really don’t want my name to be called up on any election platform, so let’s just wait till after,’ she said.
